      Downloading the CIS 111 Folders

To begin the course, you need to download the 'HTML' folder below. You will only need one folder for Week 1 and Week 2.  As the semester progresses, you will download other folders as you need them. The weekly checklists will always tell you which folder you need to download.

After you click and download begins, the downloaded zipped file will go to the Downloads folder on your C: drive.  You will use the unzipped folder to save your assignment files into and turn in the folder every week on my shared Google Drive. Instructions for this are in the Week 1 checklist. (If your folder downloads and unzips by your operating system, you will not need to go through the unzip process.) I recommend moving your downloaded folders into your Documents folder or to a USB disk and not keep it in the Downloads folder.

If the downloaded file is zipped, you will need to unzip it to open the folder and see what's inside. Your operating system comes with the ability to compress & decompress (zip & unzip) files and folders. Your folders will download as zipped (compressed) folders. Unzipping (decompressing) the folder will allow you to use the folder and files inside. After unzipping, delete the zipped file because you will not need it any longer. Click on this link to learn how to zip and unzip folders.

  1. Click on the link below for the folder you wish to download.
  2. Save the downloaded folder to your Documents folder or USB disk.
  3. Right-click the zipped folder.
  4. A pop-up menu will appear. Slide over the pop-up menu and click on 'Extract All' or "Extract Here".
  5. The unzipped folder will appear in your Documents folder or on your USB disk.
  6. Label the unzipped folder BEFORE you begin the lesson.

If you have questions, post them on the blog.

These are the folders for the CIS 111 class:

Although you will not zip folders to turn them in, you should know how to compress (zip) your folders. Compressing (aka zipping) a file or folder will make it smaller and makes it possible to send a folder as an attachment in email. However, if you have WinZip, WinRar, 7-ZIP or another program installed on your computer for compressing or decompressing, it will take precedence to serve as your compression-decompression program.  Also, if you close this window, there is a link the 'Why do I need folders?' page for zipping and unzipping.

Close this window to return to the 'Why do I need folders?' page. Then click on the 'Zipping & Unzipping' link.
