1.
What is SAM? SAM is an online skills assessment manager that measures
student proficiency in Microsoft Office software. The text materials for
your course come with an instant access code for creating a SAM account.
DO NOT CREATE YOUR SAM ACCOUNT UNTIL THE TEACHER TELLS YOU TO CREATE IT.
Please do not work ahead for this. |
·
2.
Each student must have his/her own SAM account, even if
they are taking this course for credit/no credit. (CIS 100 & CIS 111 are
not eligible for credit/no credit option.) |
·
3.
If you purchased a
used textbook and it did not come with a NEW SAM instant access code,
you must purchase SAM through Cengage
Unlimited. |
·
4.
Please watch the SAM videos about how to do things in
SAM.
IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU USE SAM CORRECTLY. Otherwise your SAM
assignments and scores will not record in the SAM gradebook. |
·
5. SAM will score your
exams, training, and projects and record the scores inside your SAM
account. You may view the scores at any time in SAM by clicking on
'Results' in SAM. You will not send me your SAM scores because I am able
to see your scores once they are recorded in SAM. |
·
6. Exams, projects, and/or training exercises are online
in SAM and are considered assignments. Exams, projects, and/or training
exercises are correlated with the material in your textbook. |
·
7. All SAM assignments
are listed in the weekly schedules. The weekly schedules tell you when
to do training assignments, project assignments, practice exams, and
‘real’ exam assignments. |
·
8. Practice exams are provided in SAM and I strongly
recommend that you use the practice exams BEFORE you attempt the ‘REAL’
exams. Students who use the practice exams score much better on the
‘REAL’ exams. PRACTICE EXAMS DO NOT COUNT AS GRADED ASSIGNMENTS. They
are just for students to use to prepare for REAL exams in SAM. |
·
9. Due dates are in the
weekly schedules and in SAM. You are responsible for knowing the due
dates. For instance, if SAM does not list a due date, you are
responsible for looking up the due date in the weekly schedule. |
·
10. SAM assignments (exams, projects, training) expire if
not completed by their due dates. Your score will be zero (0) for
assignments not completed by the due date. |
